The Maloti Minnow (Pseudobarbus quathlambae) is one of the world’s rarest freshwater fish and is found exclusively in the high-altitude rivers of Lesotho. As a critically endangered species (IUCN), it represents both the fragility and the importance of intact freshwater ecosystems.
On Archeprojekt.de, we focus on sustainable conservation strategies to protect the Maloti Minnow and its habitat. Our work combines field research, innovative monitoring methods, and community-based approaches to ensure long-term preservation. A key objective is the development of non-invasive population monitoring techniques, including the use of modern technologies such as AI-supported image analysis.
Protecting the Maloti Minnow means safeguarding biodiversity, water quality, and ecological balance in one of Africa’s most unique environments in Lesotho.
